Chicago police are on the lookout for Sinead O’Connor near the city’s bridges after the Irish pop singer threatened suicide, TMZ reported Thursday.
The celebrity-news site reported that her family in Ireland received a call in which she said she would jump off a bridge in the Chicago area. The family alerted Irish police, who relayed the call to authorities in Chicago.
“We’re told cops actually spotted someone who looked like she fit the profile, but it wasn’t Sinead,” TMZ wrote.
There have been many suicide fears surrounding the moody Irish singer, who may be best known in the U.S. for her antics on “Saturday Night Live.” She initially refused to perform as a musical guest because comic Andrew Dice Clay was hosting. When she appeared on a later episode, she spontaneously pulled out a picture of Pope John Paul II, ripped it up, and told the audience to “fight the real enemy.”
Earlier this year, she also publicly threatened suicide and was officially reported missing by her family.
Her biggest show-business achievement was her chart-topping hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” written by Prince. Since then, she has played a hallucinated Virgin Mary in an Irish movie (“The Butcher Boy”), been made a priestess in a Catholic-like sect that ordains women contrary to Catholic teaching, and has had a suffering Jesus tattooed on her chest.
