BRITTANY: ULYESSES RANDOLPH WAS ON GRANT AVENUE THURSDAY EVENING WHEN A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR CAUSED FLOODING LIKE HE SAYS HE’S NEVER SEEN. HE CAPTURED THIS VIDEO OF THE RUSHING WATER. AND CARS TRYING TO GET THROUGH ALONG 837 AS THE WATER GOT DEEPER. >> THE POLICE WAS RIGHT OUT HERE THE FIRE TRUCKS EVERYBODY THEY , WERE DOWN THERE RESCUING THE POLICE WERE DOING A GOOD JOB. BRITTANY: WHAT HE DIDN’T SEE WERE QUICK ACTIONS OF DUSQUESNE POLICE LT. TOM SHAW. RESPONDING TO CALL AT THAT INTERSECTION AROUND 5:00 THAT A P.M. WOMAN WAS TRAPPED IN HER CAR AND IT WAS BEING CARRIED DOWN THE ROAD. CHEIF THOMAS DUNLEVY >> THE WATER WAS ALMOST TWO FEET HIGH AT THE TIME. HER CAR STALLED OUT AND THE SWIFT MOVING WATER ACTUALLY CARRIED HER CAR ALMOST DOWN TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION. BRITTANY: DUSQUESNE’S POLICE CHIEF SAYS SHAW WAS THE FIRST TO ARRIVE ON SCENE. WITHOUT WAITING FOR HELP HE WADED INTO THE WATER TO GET TO THE WOMAN. >> SHAW BEING A MILITARY VETERAN AND BEING TRAINED TO REACT WHEN NEEDED IMMEDIATLEY REACTED AND LIKELY SAVED THE LADY’S LIFE. BRITTANY: CHIEF DUNLEVY SAYS SHAW DIDN’T EXACTLY FOLLOW PROCEDURE, PUTTING HIS OWN LIFE IN JEOPARDY. BUT SHAW ON THE OTHER HAND WAS ONLY WORRIED ABOUT THE WOMAN, AND ONE PERSONAL ITEM. >> HE MENTIONED THAT HIS BOOTS WERE LIKELY RUINED AND I THNK UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE CONTRACT HIS BOOTS CAN BE REPLACED. Duquesne police lieutenant rescues woman trapped in vehicle during flooding

A City of Duquesne police lieutenant rescued a woman who was trapped in her car during flooding on Thursday afternoon.Chief Thomas Dunlevy posted on Facebook that the rescue happened when heavy rains flooded Route 837, leaving the Grant Avenue intersection under nearly two feet of water.The police chief said a car was stalled in the roadway and carried southbound by swift-moving water with a woman trapped inside, unable to open her door.Chief Dunlevy wrote that Lt. Tom Shaw, the first officer on the scene, waded into the water and got the driver out of the car.There were no reports of injuries.

A City of Duquesne police lieutenant rescued a woman who was trapped in her car during flooding on Thursday afternoon.

Chief Thomas Dunlevy posted on Facebook that the rescue happened when heavy rains flooded Route 837, leaving the Grant Avenue intersection under nearly two feet of water.

The police chief said a car was stalled in the roadway and carried southbound by swift-moving water with a woman trapped inside, unable to open her door.

There were no reports of injuries.
