Deputies: Logging crew finds skeletal remains in woods near Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wooded area off of Hallsboro Road North in Whiteville Thursday after a logging crew found skeletal remains.

Deputies say a logging crew working in the area found the bones approximately a mile from the highway.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the area and searched the scene, finding bones along with personal items, including clothing.

The body was transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh. Positive identification of the victim is pending autopsy results.
