Volleyball To Open BIG EAST Play Ranked 10th

Bluejays ranked for the 27th straight week

. -- The Creighton Volleyball team held steady at a season-best 10th in the fourth poll of the regular-season that was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

This is the sixth time in program history that Creighton has made it into the top-10, and second week in a row. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017.

The Jays didn't move in the rankings after a 2-1 weekend at the Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill., where Creighton swept Lipscomb and Northern Iowa before falling to unbeaten and No. 8 Illinois. The Illini remained eighth in the latest poll.

Creighton (8-4) is 66-21 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 41 all-time polls, and are one of 14 clubs to be ranked in each of the last 27 editions. The Bluejays have been in every poll since Oct. 31, 2016.

BYU remained in the top spot in the national rankings with 58 first-place votes. Stanford held steady at No. 2 and is followed in the top-five by Nebraska, Penn State and Texas.

Creighton also moved up one spot to 13th in the VolleyMob.com poll.

The Bluejays open defense of their four consecutive BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles this Friday when they host DePaul at 7 p.m. Preseason BIG EAST favorite Marquette, the  nation's No. 21 team, visits D.J. Sokol Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m. in what will be the BIG EAST's first regular-season match-up  between ranked teams since October 29, 2005, when No. 7 Notre Dame hosted No. 6 Louisville.
