Cambridge names student honorees
CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Central School District recognized the “Student of the Quarter” in grades 7-12 for the fourth and final quarter of the 2017-18 school year. The students are Zachary Price, Collin Flint, Madison Price, Paige Wulff, Brady Lybert and Domonick Phillips. Senior Domonick Phillips was also recognized for all of his hard work as a student aide in the high school library and his contributions to the CCS Live! scripts.
U.S. Air Force welcomes Gilbert
POTSDAM — Clarkson University congratulated Colby Gilbert of Hadley for being commissioned into the U.S. Air Force at the Air Force ROTC Detachment 536’s spring commissioning on May 12.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Army ROTC commissioning and included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning of their gold bars by family members and the traditional first salute, known as the “Silver Dollar Salute.”

Students make list at Champlain
BURLINGTON, Vt. — Students have been named to the Champlain College Dean’s List for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the spring 2018 semester. Local students include:

HVCC hands out academic awards
TROY — Nearly 200 of Hudson Valley Community College’s top students were honored with a variety of academic achievement awards at the close of the 2017-18 academic year.
The awards celebrate the depth of student excellence across the college’s 85 academic programs. Students are selected for honors by faculty and departmental administrative staff. Several awards are given out college-wide. Local students include:
- Sydney Clifford of Cambridge received the Award for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Service in the Theatre Arts Program;
- Jackson Crawford of Greenwich received the Award for Academic Achievement in Ecology/Environmental Science, which is given to a student in the Environmental Studies program who has shown outstanding academic achievement;
- Donovan Farley of Argyle received the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Club Award for Academic Excellence;
- Nicole LaPlante of Granville received the President’s Award for Excellence: Dental Hygiene Association of the State of New York, the Sigma Phi Alpha: Dental Hygiene Honor Society, and the Gerard A. Ripp Memorial Award, the Hudson Mohawk Chapter of the American College of Dentists;
- John Sawicki of Gansevoort received the Outstanding Architectural Technology Student Award;
- Grace Sgambettera of Cambridge received the Threads Writing Award;
- Tammy Lin Vasquez of Schuylerville received the Eastman Kodak Business Award, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the college’s School of Business; and
- Allison Wilcox of Middle Grove received the First Advantage Dental Assisting Award.
McLaughlin is on list at McPherson
McPHERSON, Kan. — Nathaniel McLaughlin of Ticonderoga has been recognized by McPherson College, a four-year private liberal arts college located in central Kansas, as one of its highest academic achievers in its spring 2018 Honor Roll and Honorable Mention.
To qualify for the honor roll, students must be a full-time student and earn a grade point average of 3.55 or higher during the previous term. Students earning a grade point average of 3.25 to 3.54 are named to the honorable mention.
Students graduate from Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass. — Students received degrees from the College of the Holy Cross at its 172nd commencement May 25. A total of 739 students received degrees this year at Holy Cross, in exercises at which Emmy and Peabody Award-winning NPR journalist Michele Norris, founder of The Race Card Project and executive director of The Bridge, was the principal speaker. Local graduates include:

U New England names Dean’s List
BIDDEFORD and PORTLAND, Maine — Students have been named to the Dean’s List for the 2018 spring semester at the University of New England. Dean’s List students have attained a grade point average of 3.3 or better out of a possible 4.0 at the end of the semester. Local students include:

Jones is elected to honor society
CANTON — Hannah S. Jones of Hampton has been elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society at St. Lawrence University. Jones is a member of the Class of 2019 and is majoring in biology. Jones attended Granville Junior Senior High School.
Omicron Delta Kappa recognizes students who are successful in academics, athletics, community and campus service, the performing arts and journalism. The members of Omicron Delta Kappa strive to promote leadership on campus.

Students graduate Bryant & Stratton
ALBANY — Area residents were members of the 161st commencement of Bryant & Stratton College on April 28 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
Associate in Applied Science degrees were awarded to:

- Randy Winslow of Corinth, medical assisting, summa cum laude.
Tyler Bowen was installed in Alpha Beta Kappa, a national honor society for academic excellence in independent colleges and schools.
URI students on spring Dean’s List
KINGSTON, R.I. — The University of Rhode Island announced the spring 2018 Dean’s List. To be included on the Dean’s List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

Steves is honored by Morrisville State
MORRISVILLE — Brandon Steves of Whitehall, a major in human performance and health promotion BS, received the Malcolm B. Galbreath Scholarship and the HPHP Champion Award from Morrisville State College.
The award is in honor of Malcolm B. Galbreath, the third president of Morrisville State College, under whose leadership the engineering departments were started.
The HPHP Champion Award recognizes the HPHP student who is a champion in the classroom, on campus and in the community. This student must be of senior standing who has completed or is in the process of completing the HPHP 402 Wellness Center Internship.
Benz makes list at SUNY Oneonta
ONEONTA — Ashley Benz of Warrensburg, a psychology major, has been named to the spring Dean’s List at SUNY Oneonta. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 or more hours.
Ryan is graduate of Colby-Sawyer
NEW LONDON, N.H. — Erin Ryan of Glens Falls graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing May 5. Ryan graduated cum laude and was a member of the Campus Activities Board and vice president of the Student Nurses’ Association.
Wood honored at awards banquet
CAZENOVIA — Shiloh Wood of Johnsburg was recognized at the 2018 Cazenovia College Academic Awards Banquet. Wood received the Stephanie F. Leeds All-College Honors Program Award, Alpha Lambda Delta Award for Academic Excellence, was recognized for the Alumni Board of Directors Essay Contest and received the Lionel I. Dannick Award in Human Services and the Student Life Genung Award. Wood was also the valedictorian of the Class of 2018.
Whitten graduates from Saint Rose
ALBANY — Lisa Marie Whitten of Glens Falls was awarded a Master of Science in Education degree with a major in clinical mental health counseling at the 95th annual Saint Rose College commencement May 12 at the Time Union Center in Albany. Whitten, daughter of Peter and Joan Whitten, is employed as a behavioral health educator and case manager at the Alliance for Positive Health in Albany and Hudson Falls as well as a mental health counselor at Freedom First Psychological Services in Latham.
