Authorities say a Rutland Police officer was dragged 15 feet by a car during a stop over a suspected drug sale.

The Rutland Herald reports the driver, 43-year-old Michael Goodnough, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of negligent driving while attempting to elude a law-enforcement officer.

According to an affidavit, Officer Emilio Rosario was on patrol in Rutland Nov. 6 when he stopped to question Goodnough in his car.

Rosario says Goodnough suddenly sped away and his passenger jumped out, leaving the officer hanging onto the passenger side door.

Rosario says he was afraid he would be run over if he let go of the door.

A judge has set a 24-hour curfew for Goodnough and ordered him not to drive.
