In the latest edition of the Buffalo Rumblings Podcast, John Boccacino and Anthony Marino recap what was an eventful weekend for the newest members of the Buffalo Bills; the eight draft picks and the undrafted free agent signees.
The duo discussed last weekend’s rookie mini-camp, which served as the first opportunity for general manager Brandon Beane, head coach Sean McDermott, and the Bills’ fans to view rookies like Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen and Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in action.
Included among the highlights from rookie mini-camp: Allen had a surprise meeting with Jim Kelly, Buffalo’s Hall of Fame quarterback. For what it’s worth, Allen made some nice long-distance throws during the mini camp. Edmunds also had an impressive camp, while it was interesting to see where Siran Neal and Taron Johnson were deployed in their first action in Leslie Frazier’s 4-3 defense.

In breaking down the state of the wide receivers, Marino and Boccacino were both optimistic about what Kelvin Benjamin and Zay Jones can bring to the table for a unit that has been ranked at or near the bottom for overall talent.
There’s hope that free agent Jeremy Kerley can contribute as a valuable possession wide receiver, and if Rod Streater is fully recovered from last year’s pre-season injury, the duo feels he has an excellent chance to make some noise as another weapon for AJ McCarron, Allen, Nathan Peterman, or whoever is under center in 2018.
Austin Proehl, selected with the next-to-last pick of the draft, and Robert Foster, an undrafted talent out of Alabama, are two other names to watch as the wide receiver depth chart shakes out over the coming weeks and months.
While there aren’t a lot of household names among the corps of wide receivers, there will be ample opportunities for the wide receivers to step up and contribute in offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s system.
