New York’s Museum of Modern Art has locked down their selection of films and guests that make up this year’s edition of their annual series, The Contenders. Kicking off the event is the world premiere of David Lynch’s concert film “Duran Duran: Unstaged.” Duran Duran will be in attendance on opening night, November 4. The festival runs to January 16, 2014.
The slate, curated by the staff of the museum’s Department of Film, boasts many of this year’s most notable films, including such Oscar hopefuls as “12 Years a Slave,” “Gravity,” “Captain Phillips,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Nebraska” and “All is Lost.”
For horror buffs, Troma Films founder Lloyd Kaufman will be on hand January 9 to participate in a discussion following a screening of the “teensploitation” production company’s film, “The Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1.” Other notable guests expected to make appearances at MoMA include Brie Larson (“Short Term 12”), Oscar Isaac (“Inside Llewyn Davis”), Noah Baumbach (“Frances Ha”), Alfonso Cuaron (“Gravity”) and Zachary Heinzerling (“Cutie and the Boxer”).
