San Mateo Hit-And-Run: Police Seek Witnesses, Surveillance

San Mateo police say a woman was found with a head wound in the street.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo police on Friday asked for the public's help in finding a driver who hit a woman on a local roadway, and then fled the scene. The woman, a 52-year-old Belmont resident, was found lying in the roadway with a head injury and was rushed to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The incident happened Thursday around 6:40 a.m. in the area of 40th Avenue and Edison Street, according to SMPD Sgt. Amanda Von Glahn.

"When officers arrived, they located the victim and evidence indicating the woman was stuck by a vehicle," Von Glahn said in a news release.

This is the second time an injured woman was found lying on a Peninsula street in recent days. Police said the 61-year-old woman later died of her injuries.

Belmont police on Friday also asked for the public's help with solving that case, which happened on Cipriani Boulevard.

"Investigators have been interviewing witnesses and reviewing security camera video from homes in the area, in an effort to determine how the woman was injured," Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran said in a news release.

Halleran said a coroner's report on her cause of death is pending.

"Investigators are trying to find the driver of a small gray SUV (appears to by a newer model Toyota RAV4) that was captured on home security cameras, driving in the area where the woman was found," Halleran said. "It appears that the SUV passed the location where the woman was found, approximately 1 minute prior to her being discovered in the roadway."

Belmont police posted a video from images they've collected from various area security cameras, which you can see here and below.

The video shows that the SUV drove north on Cipriani Blvd (first part of the video) and then turned onto westbound Newlands Ave (second part of the video), police said.

Anyone who may recognize the vehicle is asked to call Belmont police at (650) 595-7400 or email police@belmont.gov.
