GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! So baby, come to me. Baby, show me who you are. Sweet to me, like sugar to my heart. LET'S GO TO PRESS.
In an effort to reduce the effects of the Trump shutdown, the White House is forcing 50,000 federal workers back on the job and WITHOUT PAY. (Isn't not being paid a legitimate effect of the shutdown?)
ISIS—remember them? They're the terrorist group that Trump said had been largely eradicated, which is why he's pulling our military out of Syria? Well, this eradicated group just claimed responsibility for a bombing in Syria that killed US troops.
Here's a rundown of the five times Trump has met with Vladimir Putin, and wouldn't even say to his own administration what they were talking about. THAT IS NOT SUSPICIOUS IN THE LEAST.
In Hamburg, Trump said Putin denied election hack but told him that "if we did, we wouldn’t have gotten caught because we’re professionals." Trump said: "I thought that was a good point because they are some of the best in the world." @SangerNYT https://t.co/DhjkAykuTa

At the confirmation hearing for attorney general wannabe William Barr, the nominee voiced some dicey and concerning opinions including seeing "no reason" to get rid of the law that keeps sitting presidents from being indicted, claiming that Trump calling the Mueller investigation a "witch hunt" is "understandable," and stopped short of saying the final Mueller report should be released in totality to the public. The confirmation hearings are continuing today.

Bad news for Brit Prime Minister Theresa May; her attempted plan to withdraw from the European Union (AKA Brexit) was shot down by Parliament, and now her leadership is facing a vote of "no confidence."
New York Dem Kirsten Gillibrand has made it official: She's running for president in 2020.
Who has money to do this? GIVE TO US, PLEASE.

Netflix is raising their rates again, apparently so they can afford more laughably terrible movies like Bird Box.
One of the true show biz greats, Carol Channing, has died, and you should really check out Chase Burn's sweet and enthusiastic obit.
IN LOCAL NEWS: PBOT released a report yesterday documenting the results of last year's four-month e-scooter trial... and let's just say you'll be chucking e-scooters into the river again very soon!
Clark County has two confirmed and 11 suspected cases of entirely preventable measles, thanks to dumb anti-vax parents who don't care about their community.
Police are on the lookout for the driver of a truck who hopped onto a NE Portland sidewalk and mowed down three pedestrians.
Now let's chat about the WEATHER: A shower here and there today with a high of 46.
And finally, what this person said.
