Friday, Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) joined eight agriculture leaders from his state at a White House meeting.

Cramer says the group met with Wilbur Ross, the Trump administration's Secretary of Commerce, to discuss concerns over tariffs impacting their respective industries.

This meeting comes about a week after Senator Heidi Heitkamp brought in several North Dakotans to meet with the Mexican ambassador to the United States.

Following that meeting, Heitkamp said, "From North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers perspective, we want you to know how important and critical this relationship with Mexico is to us.”

Friday, Cramer reiterated his alignment with President Trump and said, “We’re seeing senators taking constituents to the Mexican embassy to undercut the president’s negotiating. If we’d get behind him, I think we could end all this very soon rather than becoming pawns in other countries’ negotiation against the United States.”

Late Friday evening, Heitkamp's campaign spokesman, Sean Higgins, responded to Cramer in an email.

Higgins wrote, “Congressman Cramer said just last week that farmers don’t have a high enough pain tolerance to deal with his reckless trade policies. Now, he’s in damage control trying to hide his real record from North Dakota’s ag producers. Congressman Cramer puts special interests first every time and has never served on the House agriculture committee — he can’t be trusted to look out for North Dakota farmers and ranchers.”
