2nd Boones Ferry Park Open House Set For Oct. 26

The city would like residents to participate and lend a hand in helping shape the Parks and Recreation master plan.

WILSONVILLE, OR β€” City officials are inviting the community to discuss the future of Boones Ferry Park at a second open house in Wilsonville next week. More than 40 residents attended the first open house on Sept. 5, city offcials said, noting they hope for even more residents to participate and provide feedback on Oct. 26.

The open house will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 S.W. Town Center Loop E. City spokesman Mark Ottenad said the Wilsonville Parks and Recreation Department would like to hear how locals feel about enhancing specific parks and open spaces as well as increasing public access to the Willamette River, all of which are also elements of the developing park master plan update.

Working with the city on the development of parks around town is landscape architecture and planning firm Design Concepts; at the open house, Design Concepts representatives will share their findings from the first open house and offer new concept proposals. Attendees will have time to examine the findings and discuss them with their community peers during a break-out session.

"We are very excited to advance a community-driven vision for the future of Boones Ferry Park that increases public access to the Willamette River and provides new amenities for residents and visitors," Parks and Rec Director Mike McCarty said in a statement.

The seven-acre Boones Ferry Park has a playground, basketball court, and open field as well as the popular wedding and event venue, the Tauchman House; but roughly five acres of undeveloped, riverfront city-owned land next to the park, and three acres of land between the railroad tracks and Boones Ferry Road, is currently being considered as part of the master plan development process, which residents now have an opportunity to help shape.
