A woman accused of shooting a homeless man in Nashville last month criticized “media lies” in an online rant, claiming “I’m not a bad person.”
Katie Quackenbush was charged Monday night in the Aug. 26 shooting of 54-year-old Gerald Melton near Music Row.
Investigators say Melton was disturbed by exhaust fumes and loud music coming from Quackenbush’s Porsche SUV while trying to sleep at 3 a.m., and asked her to move the vehicle.
The two began yelling at each other, and cops say the 26-year-old Quackenbush exited the vehicle and shot Melton twice before running up the street with another woman.
Jesse Quackenbush countered that his daughter fired the shots in self-defense as a warning, and didn’t know Melton was hit.
Katie Quackenbush, who is also a musician in Tennessee, updated the description of a music video this week with comments about the criminal case.
Below the video for “Outlaw Love,” Quackenbush wrote: “MEDIA LIES – SO MANY FACTS ABOUT THE CASE NOT BEING SHOWN ON MEDIA. INSTEAD OF JUDGING HOW ABOUT YOU LOOK INTO MORE INFORMATION. IM NOT A BAD PERSON.”
Quackenbush, who goes by the name Katie Layne for her music, then provided links to news stories about the case, writing: “LOOK BELOW AT THESE BETTER STORIES.”
Melton, who remains hospitalized with critical injuries, is also known for his musical talent.
