Grand Haven drawbridge malfunctions again, but only briefly

GRAND HAVEN, MI -- A day after a malfunction with the U.S. 31 drawbridge caused major traffic hassles for holiday travelers, the bridge again had a brief hiccup Saturday.

Michigan Department of Transportation staff about 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26 issued a notice that southbound travel was closed because of a malfunction.

But the problem lasted only a few minutes and traffic was moving again.

On Friday, a malfunction closed both directions of traffic for about two hours in the afternoon, although traffic flow was back to normal about 4:30 p.m.
