Jacksonville's ShotSpotter system led police to the city's latest homicide late Tuesday when a man was found shot and dying in a car in the 3600 block of Effee Street, the Sheriff's Office said.

Officers were alerted to gunshots heard in the Moncrief Park community about 11:45 p.m., then went to the site near West 26th Street, police said. They stopped a white sedan that was leaving the area with the gunshot victim in the back seat.

Taken to a hospital, the man was declared dead, police said. He appeared to be in his mid-20s. The other person in the car was being interviewed. Police said they also found multiple shell casings on the roadway on Effie Street but had no suspect information at the time.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call the Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-8477(TIPS).
