Purdue arranges overflow seating to hear Condoleezza Rice

WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue will set up overflow seating to hear former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s talk Oct. 9 at Elliott Hall of Music, where all tickets were claimed weeks before the event.

Video from Rice’s talk will be livestreamed from the 6,005-seat Elliott Hall of Music to Loeb Playhouse in Purdue’s Stewart Center, which holds 1,011 people, Purdue announced Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a talk that starts at 6:30 p.m.

Admission will be free.

Tickets for Elliott Hall of Music were free, as well, and went quickly when they were available in September. Those tickets need to be claimed by showing a valid ID before the talk.

Tickets are available at the Loeb Box Office in Stewart Center between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday  and and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Those coming the day of the event may pick up tickets starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday from will call, which will be located near the Purdue Bell Tower outside of Elliott Hall of Music.

The Elliott Hall of Music doors open at 5:30 p.m. All attendees will be subject to a security check before entering Elliott Hall of Music. No large bags or backpacks will be allowed.

Rice was secretary of state under President George W. Bush. From 2001-05, Rice also was the first woman to serve as the national security adviser. Today, Rice is the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
