SEATTLE -- Here is a list of memorials being held around the Puget Sound area in remembrance of those who were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Marysville remembrance ceremony: Police and Firefighters Memorial outside Marysville Public Library, 6120 Grove St, Marysville, WA 98270. Annual event that has taken place each year since 2001, featuring an address from Mayor Jon Nehring and led by members of the Marysville Fire District's Honor Guard. Begins at 8:30 a.m.

National Day of Service and Remembrance Ceremony: Bethel Learning Center, 21818 38th Avenue East, Spanaway, WA 98387. JROTC Cadets will perform a flag ceremony and U.S. Representative Denny Heck is the keynote speaker. Begins at 9 a.m.

Tacoma Firefighters remembrance ceremony: Firefighters Memorial, 3301 Ruston Way, Tacoma, WA 98402. The program will include speeches from Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards, Tacoma Fire Chief Jim Duggan and retired firefighter Jeff Cool of the Fire Department of the City of New York. Begins at 9 a.m.

Edmonds Memorial Ceremony: Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park at Edmonds Fire Station 17, 275 6th Ave. N., Edmonds, WA 98020. The South County Fire Honor Guard will perform a flag ceremony, which will be in front of a memorial created by members of South County Union Firefighters Local 1828. Begins at 9:11 a.m.

West Pierce Fire and Rescue remembrance ceremonies: Two ceremonies will be held by the fire department today. Information on both can be found here: https://www.westpierce.org/911-remembrance-ceremonies-scheduled-lakewood/

Joint Base Lewis-McChord Remembrance Ceremony: Carey Theater on JBLM Lewis Main. The ceremony will be a tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and responders. The ceremony will include Service members from across JBLM, America’s First Corps Army Band, and first responders from JBLM and the local communities. Begins at 4 p.m.


Governor Jay Inslee has ordered all Washington State and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities to be lowered to half-staff to memorialize the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The flags will remain at half-staff until business closing time or sunset.
