Pa. judge accused of DUI gets break, but can't hear drunken-driving cases

A district judge in Berks County found herself on the other side of the law when she was charged with drunk driving earlier this year.

As WFMZ reports, Magisterial District Judge Kyley Scott had a blood alcohol level of .188 percent, more than twice the legal limit, when she was stopped by Reading Police on the early morning of April 2.

In court earlier this week, Scott was accepted into a 12-month Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program for first-time DUI offenders that will allow her to avoid conviction, jail and probation in the case, WFMZ reports.

But the judge, who is the daughter of Reading Mayor Wally Scott, is still paying for her poor decision.

According to the news station, Scott must pay court costs and fines, surrender her driver's license for 60 days, complete 16 hours of community service and take a safe driving class.

And while Scott has continued her duties as a district judge, there is one kind of case that is off-limits to her, WFMZ reports.

She is currently not allowed to preside over any DUI cases, with those cases being reassigned to another judge for the foreseeable future.
