School pride beyond the diamond, Skipperville celebrates 15th title

The most wins in the state of Alabama -- the G.W. Long High School baseball team now holds 15 state titles.

But the players aren't the only ones celebrating, those who were born and raised in Skipperville share what the win means to them.

"I'm very proud to be from Skipperville, Alabama,” says Judy Trawick. She isn’t just a fan; she worked at the Dale County Sheriff's Office for 35 years and has marched in six or seven escorts with the boys baseball team after winning state titles.

"It was just a wonderful, thrilling experience to see all the people so proud of our team. Skipperville has a wonderful fan base,” adds Trawick.

The first thing you see when you walk into H&W Country Crossroads is a sign congratulating the Rebels.

Daniel Collier has two boys on the team; he played in college and went on to play with the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers. To say he's proud is an understatement.

"For your kids to learn how to win and be a champion… it's a very special thing. The coach is very knowledgeable and that makes me feel good as a baseball dad,” says Collier.

"It's very exciting to be a part of the community, not just the win but to see what it pulls together out of the community through the athletics as well as the academics here,” adds Heath Hughes, owner of H&W Country Crossroads.

"To know how hard they work, not only in the classroom, but also apply that to the baseball field… The pride they have and the teachers and community have toward them,” added Autumn Blalock, a fifth grade teacher at G.W. Long.

The town hopes for another state title this weekend with the girls team!
