PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Let's start with these adorable deviled egg chicks.
I found the recipe online from Carol Murphy, a Pasco County woman who shares her inspirations on her blog, Comfort Spring Station. She says you'll need at least a dozen peeled boiled eggs.
"With a sharp knife take a little bit off the bottom so he'll stand up," Murphy said.
Then about a third of the way from the top, cut right through.
"The main thing you want to do is get the yoke out so you can devil it of course," she said.
Use your favorite deviled egg recipe and then put the filling in a plastic bag. Make a small cut on the corner so you can pipe it back into the egg. Now, you need some carrot slices.
"If you're wanting the beaks, you're just wanting a triangle wedge," Murphy said. "And you do the fat part in so the point is his beak."
Murphy says you can use pickles or olives for eyes.
Finally, to make it look like the chick is cracking out of its shell, make a few cuts in the egg white.
This veggie garden is simple and quick to put together. All you need are some fresh veggies, hummus and a pan or dish.
"You want it to be thick enough that you can get one to two inches of hummus in it," Murphy said. "If you don't have enough hummus or dip, everything is going to fall over."
The key is to cut the veggies long enough to stick in the hummus and leave a little green on them to look like they are growing in a garden. Just put out the extra veggies on a plate next to it.
Finally, Carol showed us how she came up with her beautiful Easter table. She starts with an inspiration, then she starts layering. Many of the elements are thrift store finds.
