Sharona Harris is the Australian designer and founder of F+H (Femme + Homme) Jewelry, a brand that strikes that perfect balance of feminine and masculine designs. The result? Oh-so-summery jewels that provide plenty of style, impact, and many a compliment. And her latest collection, 'Primal' combines influences from animal prints to tonal styling and feature Sharona's favorite gemstones of tiger’s eye, smokey quartz and black onyx. Gorgeous.
The idea is to style it up, layer it up and go with it. And Harris covers all bases from her Byron Bay studio. Felicity Carter: What was your first fashionable memory?
Sharona Harris: My first fashionable memory was my love of Mick Jagger as a teenager and the incredible suits he wore in the 70s. My favorite would be the tonal green suit he wore for a Rolling Stone interview, I would love to have that suit in my wardrobe! Music was such a huge part of my teenage years, and Mick was my major crush.
FC: Why jewelry?
SH: I saw a gap in the market for jewelry with an edge, at the time the market was saturated with very fine and bohemian inspired jewelry, which is not my style at all. So I wanted to create jewelry that suited women with style similar to mine, a brand that had a touch of tomboy attitude. So F+H Jewelry was created (Femme + Homme), to create a jewelry brand which balances feminine and masculine styling.
FC: How would you sum up the aesthetic?
SH: My jewelry is minimal with an edge. Perfect for the woman that loves tailored dressing and strong accessories.
FC: What was on your moodboard for the collection?
SH: This season I was influenced by animal print trends and a tonal 70s color palate, think Jerry Hall & Veruschka in the 70s. I wanted to ensure the collection was still modern and had a clean aesthetic, so I incorporated animal print textures of tiger stripes and snakeskin onto metal hardware, and combined this with freshwater pearls and tonal gemstones of tiger’s eye, onyx and smokey quartz to bring the vision to life.
FC: What do you love most about your job?
SH: I love the other incredibly creative people you get to meet, other designers, photographers, makeup artists and stylists. Its always so fun and inspiring to share stories and tips with other people in the industry, and it’s also amazing how supportive everyone is. We really are all in it together!
FC: Which is your favorite piece, and how do you wear it?
SH: My favorite piece from the new collection is the Primal Tiger Statement Earrings, they are the perfect earrings for a minimalist take on the animal print trend, featuring tiger stripes etched into metal, they are bold but also very easy to wear. I would pair these with my favorite vintage t-shirt and jeans by day or with a black silk slip dress and blazer for the evening.
FC: How would you like to see your label to evolve?
