Black Country MP Tom Watson has declared his office received a £200,000 donation from former Formula 1 boss Max Mosley.

Mr Watson, Labour's Deputy Leader and MP for West Bromwich East, declared the donation in the House of Commons Register of Members' Interests.

The cash helped pay for the costs of running his office as Deputy Leader and Labour's shadow minister for the Cabinet Office.

It was first highlighted by political website Guido Fawkes.

Mr Moseley is a former president of formula one’s governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile. He also campaigned for reform of the media including a tougher regime to deal with inaccurate news stories, a cause backed by Mr Watson.

It was the second time that Mr Mosley has made a donation to Mr Watson. Last August he donated almost £40,000 in cash and free printing to support Mr Watson’s successful campaign to be elected as Labour’s deputy leader.

Mr Mosley backed media reform after the tabloid News of the World newspaper, now closed, published a story about his sex life in 2008.

Author JK Rowling also made a donation of £4,000 to Mr Watson’s campaign for deputy leader last year. According to the MP's’s declaration to the register of members’ interests, he received £4,000 from her in May.
