NOKOMIS -- Norbert B. Holthaus, 93, of Nokomis, IL passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 9:00 A.M. at Pana Community Hospital in Pana, IL. He was born on September 30, 1922 in Oconee, IL, a son of Bernard and Margaret (Ibison) Holthaus.
Norbert graduated from Pana High School and he was a union carpenter for over 50 years
Mr. Holthaus was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II with the Anti Air Craft Batl 93rdwith the rank of staff sargent
Norb was a member St. Louis Catholic Church, the K. of C. # 896 in Pana and the American Legion Post #317 in Oconee for 71 years, and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.
He married the former Marie Louise Munie in 1948 and she preceded him in death in 1993. He then married Alice E. Hill in 1996. She survives.
He is also survived by his children: Madonna (Mike) Dolan of Bolingbrook, IL, Denise (Chris) Just of Assumption, IL, Mark (Gail) Holthaus of Highland, IL, Gary (Linda) Holthaus of Decatur, IL; Step-children: Larry (Maggie) O’Malley of Springfield, IL, Michael (Jan) O’Malley of Nokomis, IL, Deborah (Gene) Best of Springfield, IL, Gregory O’Malley of Springfield, IL; 14 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren,& 4 step-great grandchildren; brothers, Greg (Pat) Holthaus of Pana, IL, & Jerry (Betty) Holthaus of Pana, IL; sisters, Connie(Bob) Elam of Decatur, Marie (Dan) McCarty of Ballwin, MO, Barbara Valobis of St. Louis, MO.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Louise, 2 grandchildren , sisters, Denise Collins, Joan Schaeffler, Jean Cullen, & Delores Collins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Father Dan Willenborg will preside. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oconee, IL. Military rites by the Oconee American Legion.
