Dozens of people rallied outside the offices of a newspaper in Vero Beach after it published an entire page calling people with tattoos “trashy” and “freaks,” WPTV reports.

The message appears in the latest edition of Vero Beachside News with the headline “Tattoos, piercings degrade a person’s appearance.”

“If you want to look like a freak, get a tattoo. Or more than one. And if you decide to change your mind and want them removed, count on days and months of pain and anguish- — and possible failure. Plus you’ll probably get lots of job rejections if your tattoos show,” the post continues.

A photo of the page has been shared hundreds of times on social media and many people with tatoos are upset. Some even visited the newspaper this week, demanding answers.

“How you could you publish something like that, call them freaks because they have a tattoo?” veteran, Terry Fagan told WPTV.

Fagan has multiple tattoos to honor his comrades who died while he served in the military along with a tattoo in case he was killed.

“So if you lose your head, arms, legs, How else are you going to be identified? So, on the sides of our torso we have tattooed our social security number and blood type,” Fagan said.

Nick Coffinas, a tattoo artist in Port St. Lucie told WPTV thinks the newspaper’s take on tattoos is “sad.”

“It’s a personal journey that each person goes on… Some people get them for purpose, some people get them for the art. Some people get them just to get them,” Coffinas said.

Vero Beachside News had yet to respond to WPTV’s requests for comment.

“I’d expect an apology to the community, number one,” Fagan said. “I would love an apology,” said  Lindsey Cook, a mom and business owner with tattoos.
