Meridian Township discusses medical marijuana zoning ordinances

Meridian Township could take the next step to become the latest community in Mid-Michigan to allow medical marijuana businesses to set up shop.

The Township Board held a joint meeting with the Planning Commission Tuesday evening to get a better understanding of zoning and non-zoning ordinances.

Also up for discussion, the number of medical marijuana facilities to be allowed, and whether or not to limit growers and processors to industrial areas.

Last January, Meridian Township officials approved a set of rules that sets up a permitting process for medical marijuana businesses.

The ordinance allows up to six dispensaries in Meridian Township.
