GW goalie recognized for play at Aggie Roundup

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- George Washington's Austin Pyrch has earned his second straight Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Defensive Player of the Week award.

After being honored last week for his performance at the Princeton Invitational, Pyrch continued his strong play in net at the Aggie Roundup hosted by UC Davis. The senior goalkeeper totaled 47 saves in helping the Colonials to a 2-2 mark.

Pyrch's top performance came in the weekend finale, a 12-11 loss to No. 17 San Jose State in sudden-victory overtime on Sunday, when he tallied a career-high 15 stops, plus an assist. He made 10 saves with a steal and an assist in a 21-15 win over Fresno Pacific and eight saves in a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over Whittier.

To start the weekend, Pyrch also made 14 stops in a 9-6 loss to No. 18 California Baptist.

Pyrch and the Colonials kick off MAWPC play this weekend with three road contests. They'll start with a Saturday doubleheader against La Salle and Wagner before finishing at Fordham on Sunday.
