Beto O'Rourke To Hold Rally And Concert In Rio Grande Valley

The concert, which will feature Grammy winners Los Tigres Del Norte, comes after the second debate between Cruz and O'Rourke.

EDINBURG, TX — Rep. Beto O'Rourke will hold a rally and free concert in Edinburg Thursday night as part of his goal to visit all 254 counties in Texas. The concert will feature performances from Grammy winners Los Tigres Del Norte, as well as Asleep at the Wheel and Little Joe y La Familia, O'Rourke's campaign said in a news release.

“The families of our Latino community have been a cornerstone of Texas’ population for generations, but are once again under direct attack from an administration built on divisiveness; while a sitting Senator turns a blind eye and deaf ear to our struggles," O'Rourke said in the news release.

O'Rourke and Sen. Ted Cruz faced off Tuesday night in San Antonio in their second debate. Both candidates bucked heads on nearly every foreign and domestic policy question asked. For example, in terms of border security, O'Rourke praised El Paso and how safe the city is and denounced President Donald Trump's plan for an expanded border wall. Cruz, who supports the wall, attributed El Paso's safety to the border wall that already exists between the city and Mexico.

Cruz was in Edinburg, a border city, last week for a private fund raiser where he criticized Democrats.

"I actually think the way the Democrats conducted themselves during the Kavanaugh hearings has had a powerful effect in waking up and energizing a lot of Texans and common-sense conservatives of just how extreme and radical the national Democrats have gotten," Cruz said, according to the New York Times.

O'Rourke has nabbed headlines lately thanks an astonishing $38.1 million raised in three months. The amount, which was raised between July 1 and September 30 and does not include money from political action committees, has only further cemented Texas' race as the most expensive in the U.S. with both candidates having raised $80 million combined.

As of Wednesday morning, Cruz was ahead in the polls by seven points, according to realclearpolitics.com.
