Nurse Fire: 1.5K Acres Burned; 90% Contained In Solano County

A semi sparked the blaze Thursday along Highway 12.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – The Nurse Fire, a blaze that broke out Thursday off Highway 12 and Nurse Road in the Suisun City area, was 90 percent contained with 1,500 acres consumed, Cal Fire reported today at about 12 p.m.

The brush fire began from a tractor-trailer that caught fire while traveling east on State Route 12 near Nurse Slough, officials said. Winds blew the flames into adjacent fields.

Crews "directed" the blaze into the previous Branscombe Fire burn scar where there were no fuels to keep the fire going, the Solano County Office of Emergency Services said..

East- and westbound lanes initially were closed to traffic as firefighters battled the blaze, but reopened on Thursday.

OES officials noted that Red Flag conditions are in effect this weekend with wind and low humidity, adding that "We all need to be careful while doing anything outside."
