H.S. football roundup: Canyon soars over Borger
Canyon used a balanced attack to open the new season with a dominating 44-7 victory over Borger.
The Eagles were led by senior quarterback Cade McCallie, who completed 11 of 17 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. McCallie also added 40 yards on the ground, including a 17-yard touchdown in the final quarter.
The balanced attack from Canyon amassed a total of 138 yards on the ground and 164 yards through the air for 302 total yards.
Borger ammassed 318 yards, with 251 yards through the air.
Both teams battled penalties as Borger totaled 120 yards worth on 17 penalties and Canyon collected 14 flags for 136 yards.
The key to Canyon's win was tracking down five turnovers, including three interceptions to move to 1-0 on the young season.

Fernando Jacquez scored on a short run and Gerardo Romero added two TD runs in the opening half to take Stratford to a commanding halftime lead as the Elks rolled to a solid road win over Sunray in the season opener for both teams.
Jacquez got the Elks on the scoreboard in the first period when he scored from 4 yards out, and Romero added TD runs of 11 and 8 yards in the second quarter to stake them to a 24-6 lead at halftime.
Mario Lechuga threw touchdown passes of 40 yards to Daniel Hernandez in the second quarter and 9 yards to Carlos Herrera in the third period for Sunray's only points.

The Skyrockets came out on the losing end of a defensive slugfest with Childress, snapping the fourth-longest regular-season winning streak in Class 2A at 34 games.
The key play of the game came in the fourth quarter when Childress quarterback Bryce Bowman connected with Kaden Keys on a 90-yard pass for the first scoring play of the game.
Austin Gonzales would later add a five-yard touchdown to give the Bobcats the 14-0 lead.

Alex Peredes helped turn the game for HP with a fourth-quarter fumble return to bring the score to 22-13.
HP led 29-19 before the Longhorns (0-1) scored in the fourth quarter on a 61-yard run by Justin Joyce, who led Vega with 116 rushing yards on 12 carries.
The Longhorns' Parker Bain rushed for 130 yards and scored on a 3-yard pass from Joyce.

Kolby Hall's 3-yard run in overtime spoiled a superb comeback by Dumas as host Perryton edged the Demons in the season opener for both teams.
Perryton led 27-7 at halftime and was in front by a 34-21 margin after three quarters. Dumas, however, scored three unanswered TDs in the final period as Mason Blackwell ran 7, 22 and 24 yards to put his team in front by a 42-34 margin.
The Rangers answered back as substitute quarterback Hadley Allred threw a 18-yard TD pass to Hall with 3:55 remaining and then tossed a 2-point conversion pass to Trent Ottinger to force the overtime.
Perryton scored on its first possession in OT on Hall's run then its defense stopped the Demons' bid to extend the game.
