1 to 2 inches of snow remains in forecast Saturday for northern Arkansas

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for portions of northern Arkansas where precipitation is expected to produce 1 to 2 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

The weather advisory was issued Friday and remains in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday.

Precipitation in northwest Arkansas will change to a rain and snow mix late Saturday morning and become all snow around midday. The storm could also drop as many as 3 inches of snow in the Ozark Mountains before tapering off in the evening, according to the weather service.

The highest snowfall will be seen across the northern region, but central Arkansas could receive a light dusting of snow, according to the weather service.

Warm ground temperatures in the 40s could inhibit snow accumulation, but roads and bridges may become slick, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will continue to plummet Saturday, and Sunday temperatures are expected to be below freezing in northern Arkansas. Winds from the northwest could produce wind chill readings in the single digits in the morning hours Sunday. However, some melting is expected to occur with full sun in the forecast, according to the weather service.

Dry weather will continue throughout next week until Friday when another storm system could produce wintry precipitation, according to the weather service.
