Austin Travel To, From Dallas-Fort Worth Delayed Due To Storms

Federal aviation officials report flights are being delayed for up to an hour with some outright canceled as a result of rain in Dallas.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin travelers headed to Dallas-Fort Worth could see flight delays or outright cancellations due to thunderstorms up north, Federal Aviation Administration officials said Monday.

A glance at the Austin-Bergstorm International Airport online flight dashboard reveals that some flights arriving at DFW International could be delayed up to about an hour, while most are experiencing quarter-hour delays. Departures also are being delayed due to showers and thunderstorms, the dashboard indicates, with delays of just under an hour.

One flight out of ABIA — Flight 130 into DFW that was scheduled to depart at 7:57 a.m. — was canceled, FAA officials said.

Although a welcome development given arid, often triple-digit, conditions in much of Texas for the past month or so, rain already has wreaked havoc on the DFW area. Officials at the Oncor utility on Monday reported some 16,000 customers were without power at around 9:30 a.m. Monday as a result of the rain. In Dallas proper, more than 13,000 customers were without power.

Rain is expected across mainly the northern portions of the region today, but could also later descend on Central Texas. Chances for thunderstorms in the Austin region jump to about 40 percent by Monday evening, forecasters said.
