James (Jerry) Joseph Gensel was born May 28, 1934 in Ohio, when he was one year old his parents moved to Hollywood beach where they built a house on New York Street. Jerry grew up loving the water and the outdoors where he learned to fish and work on his life long love of golf. Jerry met the love of his life Judith (Judy) Brousseau when they were in the youth group at First Presbyterian Church Hollywood, they both have been members of the church for 70 plus years. Jerry sang in the choir, along with his wife and served many offices in the church. He graduated from South Broward High School, where he played in all of the sports teams while singing in the school choir. Jerry and Judy were married Sept. 11th, 1954. He worked for many years building a reputation as a Stock Broker. Jerry made many friends playing golf, tennis, fishing, church, known as a master joke teller (Junto club) as well as a former Kiwanis club member and Committee of 100. He is predeceased by brothers Pete Gregg and Phil Gensel and sister Carol Murrell. Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judy, his sons James, and Robert (Arlene); daughter Ann Beverly (Chuck); his grandchildren, Allen (Alina), Amanda (Bob), Shannon (Justin) and Kristen as well as eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Melanie Link passed away on October 31, 2018. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, and wife. At the age of 52 she is survived by her husband Christopher Link, her four children Jillian, Kayla, Jake, and Skyler, as well as her parents Pam and Paul Phillips, brother Keith and his wife Maggie and their sons Zack and Nicolas. May 12, 1933 – October 30, 2018FT. LAUDERDALE – Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Myron and Lila Braatz, Tom attended Mary D. Bradford High School, where he played basketball, football and track. He was selected to the All State football team in 1950 and played in the annual All State North-South High School Classic. As captain of the basketball team, he was chosen on the All Big Eight first team and voted the team’s MVP. Along with his athletic achievements in high school, he also met the love of his life, Jeri. Tom attended Marquette University and played football under coach Lisle Blackbourn. As a junior, he was named co-captain of the Hilltoppers in 1954. Later in his college career he was chosen to the 22-man roster for the Shriners North-South Charity All-Star game in Miami, Florida.Tom was selected in the 14th round of the 1955 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. He was subsequently drafted into the US Army in 1955 and served in the Korean War. He played on the All Star Army football team that beat the Navy All Stars 35-0 and was chosen to the Far-East All Army football squad which defeated Air Force in the Rice Bowl in Tokyo in 1956. 1957 was his rookie year with Washington Redskins under coach Joe Kuharich. He played both ways as a tight end and linebacker for three years. In 1960, he went to the Dallas Cowboys in the expansion draft to play under Coach Tom Landry. A back injury in 1962 ended his playing career.Tom was an NFL Front Office Executive for almost 40 years from 1965 to 2003 holding various titles including Scout, Director of College Scouting, Director of Player Personnel, Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager with the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers and the Miami Dolphins. In his 39 years as a front office executive, Tom drafted 44 players that played in 112 Pro Bowls. His teams went to 17 playoff games during his tenure. He has been inducted into the Pro Scouting Hall of Fame and awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from his Alma Mater, Marquette University.In retirement, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family at Lake Lanier in Georgia and at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he taught his four grandchildren about fishing and life. Tom enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, attending Willie Nelson concerts and he was an avid collector of antique fishing lures, western belt buckles, and stag horn carving sets among other things. Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Braatz; his two sons, Thomas D Braatz; Jonathan Braatz of Atlanta (Stephanie); and four grandchildren (Jonathan II, Ryan, Hannah, Sarah).A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4595 Bayview Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308.

Preceded in death and beloved by husband Lou, son Jeffrey Heideman, sisters Pearl Reyn and Alane Sturm. Late in life she found love and companionship with Harold Firestone, who survives her. She will be missed by him, his family, nieces Barbara Martin and Lane Rosenthal, and her son Larry.

Lauderdale Florida, formerly of Bronxville New York, passed away peacefully in his home October 26, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Magistro) Calabrese and brother Salvatore Mancino (Jeanne) and many loving relatives and friends. He was born in the Bronx, NY, theson of the late Teresa A. and John Calabrese. He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Political Science from Fordham University in 1954, and also earned three varsity ”letters” in Baseball. He immediately entered the US Army and served two years, mostly in Germany, in the Special Services Branch. He was honorably discharged with the permanent rank of First Lieutenant. He then attended Fordham University School of Law, and after three years, graduated with the degree of Doctor of Laws. During his almost 40 year career, Donnie was not only an expert in the field of law, but a savvy political consultant and back room strategist. While his law partner of over three decades was presiding over the New York City Council, or running for Governor, Donnie worked tirelessly to build a striving, well-respected law practice. He played a key role in New York City politics during the 80’s and 90’s, and will be remembered as the consummate professional with a quick wit, a sharp pen and an even sharper intellect. Donnie was an extraordinary athlete who, since childhood, passionately loved his ” baseball”. He enjoyed golf, the music of Frank Sinatra, the humor of “Bob and Ray” the love of his many cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends, but most of all, the love of his life, his wife Mary, who he called “Fil”. He joined the FAA in 1957 as an Air Traffic Controller, and retired in 1985 from Miami International Airport. He also loved to fly his own airplanes. Ron loved his family, and took care of his niece, Shirley Beach, when she was a teen. He also loved visiting with his friends. Edward Paul Shapiro, D.M D., of Deerfield Beach, FL., formerly of Schenectady, was born in May 1920 to the late Minnie Rosen Shapiro and Louis C. Shapiro and died November 7, 2018.He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1938 and attended Union College. After three years at Union, he was accepted at Tufts School of Dental Medicine graduating cum laude in 1944. As it was wartime, he was a member of the US Army while in dental school, completed four years of study in three, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation.He married the former Minnie Horowitz, whom he had met on a blind date while a freshman at Union. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary last month.After being discharged from the Army in 1946 as a Captain, he returned to Schenectady and soon established his dental office on State Street, where he practiced for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. Patients would stop him years later and tell him how much they missed him. Summers were spent at the “camp” at Galway Lake where family and friends always gathered. Whether at camp, their Schenectady home, or later at their home in Deerfield Beach, FL, Ed was always fixing something, using his mechanical abilities and ingenuity. He was the go-to guy when neighbors, friends, and family needed a consult on so many issues.Ed lived his life with gusto; traveling the world with Min, playing tennis into his early 90’s and playing Bridge with friends every week. He lived a moral life with Min always by his side, instilled fairness and respect for all people, in all three of their children. His children are so grateful to have had him in him their lives for so long. He was a mensch who will be greatly missed.He is survived by his wife, Min, and daughters, Sandra (Steven) Handler of Galway, Diane (Stephen) Harrison of Slingerlands, and son, Richard (Karen) Shapiro, of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Laurence Anouna, Michelle Durkin, Lowell Harrison, Marisa Santos, Elena Shapiro, and Max Shapiro; five great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Langdon Wilby, 85, of Hollywood, Fla and formerly of Johnston, RI passed away at his home. Lang is survived by his long time companion of 22 years, Elaine Colapietro and her daughters who considered Lang their stepfather; Kimberly and Anthony Cappelli of Hollywood, Fla, Rene’ Craveiro and Anthony of W Greenwich, RI, and a granddaughter, Jenna Craveiro of W Greenwich, RI. Gertrude Harriet BrownBorn Gertrude Harriet Pratt on April 10th, 1919 in Providence, Rhode Island, died peacefully November 1st, 2018, at her home, surrounded by friends, after a long battle with CA. “Trudy” as her friends knew her, had lived in SE Florida for many years and was preceded in death by her beloved husband Norman Brown. Trudy lived at Park Summit in Coral Springs, for the last five years of her life, where she was “the life of the party.” At Trudy’s request, there will be no memorial service and her ashes will be spread where The Sea Meets the Sand. With profound sadness the family of Daniel Walter Buchta announces his passing on Sunday November 4th, at the age of 63, after a difficult battle with cancer. Dan was born on the lower east side of New York City and attended Far Rockaway High School where he was a member of the springboard diving team. Dan joined the US Navy on the maiden crew of the USS Nimitz where he learned water treatment as a machinists mate. He worked for the City of Sunrise as Chief Utilities Operator for more than 35 years. Dan was an avid golfer, artist, cat daddy and loved to entertain all with humorous stories. He loved the NY Jets and Yankees, and eating as many Florida stone crabs as possible. Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 13 years, Deborah, and is survived by his mother Geraldine, brother Peter, sisters-in-law Malkah and Phyllis, nieces Alena, Alissa, Kimberly, Sharon, and Simone, nephews Daniel and Ian and Dano’s best buddy Dave. Daniel was predeceased by his father Walter and sister Joane. Llewellyn, Thomas D., 71, of Fort Lauderdale, died Monday, October 29, 2018. Tommy was a longtime local deejay known as Tommy Llew Sounds. He was the son of Evan and Clarice of Fort Lauderdale. He is survived by his sons, Thomas (wife Dorothy) and Sean (wife Marie), stepdaughter, Debbie, grandchildren, Vickie, Tommy, Hannah and Sam, brother, Bill, sisters, Gwen Puckett, Peggy Ludes and Marylin Warner. Leo J. Pruner, age 90, of Highland each, Florida, went home to the Lord on November 7th, 2018. Leo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Pruner. He is also survived by his sisters Marion Dietrich and Agnes Kearns, his children James, Robert, Frank (Lisa) Pruner. Linda (Fred) Fay, his grandchildren James, Matthew and Amy Pruner, Robert and Lorraine Fay, and Jessica Sarli. His brothers Francis, Eugene, and James Pruner predeceased Leo. Leo graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1948 and married Joan in 1957. They lived in Montclair, NJ for five years, and Caldwell, NJ for 29 years. Leo retired from GE in 1990 when they moved to Florida. Leo ushered at St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell and St. Lucy Church in Highland Beach, Florida He was involved in Scouting in Caldwell for 18 years with Pack 3 as Assistant Cub Master, Cub Master, Weblos Leader, Troop leader, Scout Master and chairman of the Explorer post. He was actively involved in Cross-Trails square dance club from 1976 to 1990, where he served as president for two years and ran its youth group for 4 years. He was an active member in 4 camping clubs in New Jersey: with the scout families, the Caldwellites, Cross Trail Square Wheelers and the Garden State Square Dance Club. In Florida he served on the Seagate Board of Directors for two years and was responsible for installation of sprinkler systems, air conditioning, painting of the buildings, managing the grounds, and installing new docks. In 2001 Leo joined the Community Emergency Response Team and in 2002 was made leader of that group. While leading the group he was able to build it up to 40 members and had access to $5,000 in medical supplies for Highland Beach to use in case of a hurricane or other emergencies. Dr. Herbert D. Davidson of Arlington, Virginia and Boca Raton, Florida died November 9, 2018 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington of pneumonia. He was 91 years old. Davidson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1927, the son of a Latvian immigrant who lacked a high school education. His family moved to Washington, D.C. during the Great Depression. Following graduation from Anacostia High School, Davidson completed one semester at George Washington University before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served as a medical corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital and was preparing to join the Fleet Marines for the invasion of Japan when the Second World War ended in 1945.Completing his military service, he returned to George Washington University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. He receiving admission to Georgetown University, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1953. His G.I. Bill benefits had expired in 1949 and Davidson was obliged to work his way through four years of dental school. After completing his dental degree, he received a Master of Science in Orthodontics from Tufts University in 1955. Returning to the Washington, D.C. area, Davidson established the first orthodontic practice in Fairfax County, eventually founding offices in Falls Church, Herndon, Vienna and Oakton.Dr. Davidson was president of the Fairfax County Dental Society, president of the Eastern Component of the E. H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, fellow of the International College of Dentists and an instructor for the Charles H. Tweed Foundation for Orthodontic Research, as well as a member of numerous other dental and orthodontic societies. Davidson married Ann Louise Gordon in 1950, with whom he had two children. After Ann died in 1980, he met recently widowed Judy Dutton at a Potomac, Maryland Boxing Day party. They married in 1983, providing Dr. Davidson with a second family of five stepchildren and associated relatives. Following multiple attempts to retire from orthodontic practice in the mid-1990s, Davidson could often be found playing golf and gin rummy at the Washington Golf & Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, Adios Country Club in Coconut Creek, and the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida. He found mutual trust and friendship among the many persons with whom he spent his final years.Davidson is survived by his wife Judy, two children from his first marriage Susan D. Simpson (Glenn) and Dr. Kim Davidson-Rogers (Bruce), five step-children from his second marriage Robert Dutton, Dr. Heather Dudley (Tim), Paul Dutton (Hilary), Holly Dutton and Kimberly Dutton, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia. The funeral service will occur on Thursday, November 15, at 11 AM at the Murphy Funeral Home, followed by internment at Columbia Gardens in Arlington. SEGAL, Leonard (87), unexpectedly entered into rest on November 8, 2018, of Delray Beach Florida and formerly of Canton and Bourne, Massachusetts. Loving husband to the late Annette (Wean) Segal. Son of Albert Segal and Bessie (Tenovsky). Devoted and loving father of Debbie and Jeffrey Segal. Loving brother to the late George and Anne Segal. Loving uncle to Sheryl Segal and her husband Seth Emmer and David Segal and his wife Wendy. Great uncle to his nephew Jacob. For the last nine and a half years, he was a devoted and longtime companion to Elaine Hecht. Cherished friend of Elaine’s children, Sheri Hecht-Leonard and her husband Jeffrey Leonard and their children Devin and Caleigh, and Scott and his wife Tracy Hecht and their children and grandchildren. Also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Lenny was also blessed with many close and wonderful friends from Massachusetts and from his home in Florida.Lenny was a proud veteran who formerly served in the Korean War. He served as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany. During the war he talked about the adventures, as a young man, of seeing many parts of Europe. He along with his brother George, for many years, were the owners of B & A Bargains, which was a wholesale/retail grocery store and a staple in the Dorchester, Massachusetts community. Lenny loved his family and many cherished friends. He also loved to travel with his wife and his dear friends. He travelled many times on extended vacations to St. Thomas, Marco Island, Florida, and Palm Springs, California. Also, for many years he owned a second home in Bourne, Massachusetts, where he and his wife shared many happy memories with friends and family both at their home and on Old Silver Beach. He also was known to frequent the Chart Room many weekends at Kingman Marina. With his wife and friends, he was fortunate enough to take many trips to Portugal, Israel, Germany, Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. In his later years, with his loving companion, he was able to take two transatlantic repositioning cruises, which he loved. He also travelled to Italy, Australia, New Zealand and Russia, to name a few. He also had plans for another Caribbean Cruise and a future trip to Alaska. In spite of losing loved ones over the years, Lenny kept a positive attitude. He loved life and was an inspiration to many.
