Spurs assistant coach Ime Udoka will interview to be the next Hornets head coach, as first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Udoka played basketball professionally for 12 years, including seven seasons in the NBA. He's been a Spurs assistant since 2012, which immediately followed his four-season stint with the team.

The Nigerian-American is the second Spurs assistant to be connected with the Hornets vacancy. Wojnarowski reported Ettore Messina is set to interview for the job as well. Messina took over head coaching responsibilities for Game 3 of the Spurs-Warriors series after the death of Gregg Popovich's wife, Erin. Messina will keep the head seat for Game 4.

Udoka and Messina will join former Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale on new Charlotte GM Mitch Kupchak's list of potential replacements.

The position has been vacant since April 13, when Steve Clifford was fired after finishing 36-46, good for 10th in the East. Clifford finished with a 196-214 overall record in five seasons.
