Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a man who was reported missing last week in Indianapolis, the agency said Wednesday.

Police found the remains of Jeremy Cain, 33, on the city's south side on Tuesday.

On Sept. 3, a family member from southeast Indiana told troopers they hadn't heard from Cain since late August, police said in a news release. A missing persons report was filed.

During the missing persons investigation, investigators grew more suspicious of foul play. Detectives later found Cain's remains in the Beech Grove area, police said.

Investigators found evidence of a possible homicide, turning the missing persons case into a homicide investigation, police said.

Cain's remains have been turned over to the Marion County Coroner's office, troopers said.

Additional details on the investigation weren't immediately available Wednesday evening.
