A crash between a tractor trailer and a snow plow truck caused the shutdown of Route 221 for three hours.

No injuries were reported after a tractor-trailer filled with sand collided with a plow truck early Wednesday at the intersection of Route 221 and Deans Pond Road in the Town of Marathon.

Police say say Corey Houseman, of Booneville, was operating a 2003 Kinetic Engineering Ltd. tractor-trailer east on Route 221 when a Town of Marathon plow truck, operated by Randy Ensign, of Marathon, backed up onto Route 221 from Deans Pond Road into the path of the tractor-trailer.

Houseman swerved but struck the rear end of the plow truck. Officials say Houseman then continued traveling east into the other lane of traffic and off the roadway before coming to a rest and partially overturning in the ditch.

No injuries were reported after a crash between a tractor trailer and a snow plow truck caused the shutdown of Route 221 for three hours.

The tractor-trailer was loaded with a cargo of sand and had a combined weight of over 100,000 pounds, police say.

The crash caused Route 221 to be closed between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. while emergency crews and Morey’s Towing & Recovery removed the cargo and tractor-trailer.

No injuries were reported following the incident.

The state Department of Transportation, Marathon Fire Department and Morey’s Towing assisted with the investigation, recovery and clean-up.

The investigation is ongoing.
