Emma Stone has been offered the role of Elizabeth Bennet in the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Lionsgate Films. She will play the zombie-killing heroine who is trying to save the world from the other world creatures. The role was previously offered to Anne Hathaway, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Wasikowaska and Natalie Portman. Craig Gillespie (Fright Night remake) will direct it.

The movie is an adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel which is a horror/ Comic/ romantic takeoff on the original. When the book was published in 2009, it quickly became a cult favorite among the internet bloggers, and was featured in newspaper articles, podcasts and tweets. The novelty of subject and the matching of a seminal classic with modern zombie fiction was enough to drive up the interest. So much so that the book instantly rose up to number 3 in The New York Times bestseller list. The book was at 27th place on amazon.co.uk's top 100.

The script of the film generated a lot of interest among directors like Jonathan Demme, Matt Reeves, Phil Lords and Chris Miller along with Mike White. Lionsgate picked David O Russell to direct the movie and then handed it over to Mike White who also could not take up the project due to previous commitments. The script has finally landed with Craig Gillespie.

The male lead contenders are Bradley Cooper and James McAvoy. For Emma Stone this would be another step higher in her big-league career graph. She has recently finished director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. She is also a part of Crazy, Stupid, Love with Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling and her The Help is slated for release in August 12.
