Seahawks' Michael Bennett calls for Colin Kaepernick to start: 'He's a great QB'

After two rough weeks offensively, the Seattle Seahawks returned to form against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Despite not having Russell Wilson for most of the second half, the Seahawks scored 37 points and allowed just 18 to the Blaine Gabbert-led 49ers.

The Seahawks gave up just 254 yards of total offense, including 119 through the air. Gabbert has struggled throughout the season, but he was particularly bad in this game, averaging just 4.8 yards per pass attempt. He proved to be no threat offensively with his longest completion going for 20 yards.

Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett wasn’t surprised by Seattle’s ability to shut down Gabbert.

Gabbert has three touchdown passes and three interceptions this season with a completion rate of just 55.2 percent. He’s also thrown for just 532 yards in three games. It’s seemingly just a matter of time before Chip Kelly turns to Colin Kaepernick, but Bennett believes that time should be now.

Not that Bennett wants the 49ers to win football games, seeing as they’re division rivals, but he believes they’re better off with Kaepernick.

“I think Kaepernick gives the team a better chance of winning, but that’s just my opinion.”

Kaepernick has yet to play this season, and Kelly said he did not consider putting him in the game with Gabbert struggling. That could (and should) change in the near future should the 49ers continue to struggle.
