A man is in custody after leading officers on a chase through Stockton, hitting a parked car and hiding from police before being spotted on a roof. The California Highway Patrol was investigating a report of a stolen vehicle, which officers spotted Monday afternoon. The chase started around 1:30 p.m. on Waterloo Road east of Highway 99 after the stolen vehicle became mobile, CHP said. The chase lasted about 30-45 minutes and the driver of the stolen SUV reached speeds of 90 mph. The pursuit ended on Lansdowne Drive when the shirtless suspect hopped out of the moving SUV and ran away into a nearby yard.The SUV continued forward without a driver and rammed into a parked car in the neighborhood. A woman who was in the SUV with the man received medical attention for a hurt hand. Her relationship to the suspect is not yet known, but she was also taken into custody, CHP said. Officers set up a perimeter to search for the man. A CHP plane, Stockton police helicopter and K-9 were used in the search. After about an hour of searching, the man was spotted on a roof a few houses from where he ran out of the SUV. The man jumped down to the ground and was taken into custody. His identity is not yet known.
