(New Bomb Turks)

Garage-punk iconoclasts the

were one of the biggest bands to emerge from Cleveland in the 1990s - by way of Columbus, where much of the band went to college. The Turks are still going, too, with frequent "reunion" shows and European gigs (they just played fests in Finland and Belgium).

No Cleveland shows on the schedule, but fans of the band's high-octane gutter-crunch blast have a reason to shake their fists. Eric Davidson - now based in Queens, New York City - will debut his new band, The Livids, with a show at

2233 West Third Street (in the industrial Flats), at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Rising local agit-rockers Obnox and Ohio Civil War open. $5 cover.

Speaking of the Turks, the recent reissue of their 1993 debut "!!Destroy-Oh-Boy!!" just earned a rave review from

, which called it "a sarcastic, snarling counterpoint to the grunge era."
