Rockingham Redi-Mix and related companies are pitching in to help victims of Hurricane Florence through recovery assistance and a food drive.

"I grew up in Carteret County, North Carolina, and I've seen 10-12 people that I personally know, and more friends of friends who have lost everything," said Lauren Simmons, an organizer. "They just really need a hand right now."

One member of their company, Rusty Simmons, went to Carteret County, North Carolina to assist with clean-up and supply construction materials for damaged houses.

In the Valley, the company is hosting a food drive to collect non-perishable items, specifically items that do not have to be cooked.

Donations will be accepted Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m.– 6 p.m. at Rockingham Redi-Mix and Red Front.

The addresses are 2565 John Wayland Highway in Rockingham County and 677 Chicago Ave. in Harrisonburg.
