HAPLESS jockey Michael Poy was banned for 11 days after breaking rules twice in the SAME race.

Poy is regarded as one of the top up-and-coming riders in Australia having already won more than £6.1million from 249 wins.

Poy finished third on 11-1 chance Vitani in the six furlong clash, riding through strongly from the middle of the pack.

But eagle-eyed stewards noticed early on he allowed his ride to shift when not sufficiently clear of rival High Excalebration.

The jockey on that horse had to steady the horse, causing it to lose its running in the short sprint.

Poy was then hit again for careless riding after banging into another horse three times when trying to attain the best position for the run in.

Make Mine Hennessy was, stewards determined, taken off its rightful running as a result of the interference.

Poy was subsequently banned for 11 days for his actions.

Fellow jockey Stacey Metcalfe copped a two-month ban after her ride at Murray Bridge earlier this month.

The apprentice rider, 33, surged clear on five-year-old mare Exalted Maxine in a seven-furlong race.

The contest looked all but over half-way round as Metcalfe led by around eight lengths.

And she seemed to have the easiest job just getting the runaway leader home to scoop the £15,000 first-place prize.

Punters were licking their lips too at the prospect of a tasty payout - until it all went wrong.

With the finish post in sight, Metcalfe's mount appeared to run out of gas, allowing the charging pack to get near for the first time in the race.

And it was not until I Am Bolt neared in the dying strides that Metcalfe asked her mount to work really hard.

But by then it was too late, and what looked like certain victory turned into a second-place finish - and a nightmare for punters who backed her.
