Lara Dutta, who will be seen as a mentor and judge for the Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2016 pageant once again, feels that there’s been a huge difference from the time she participated in it, almost 16 years back.
Talking about the same, she says, “We had a lot of time to groom ourselves before anyone publicly saw us. On the other hand, girls here are on national television within two weeks of their selection. The criteria are a lot tougher and girls now need to be a lot more self-confident to be groomed and camera-ready. The international beauty pageant is not so much about only waving, parades and supporting social causes. The girls are doing a lot of high fashion work and walk for many designers internationally. So, we’re looking at someone who is not just high fashion, but also a very strong spokesperson.”
Former Miss India Universe 2002 Neha Dhupia, who was one of the panelists for episode one of Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2016 alongside Lara Dutta feels that contestants today come with a lot of support. “When we were doing beauty pageants, we had to wait for a fashion magazine to see what’s trending and what’s not. We only had as much support from people we knew and it was still a mom and pop shop. Now, the world’s gone digital and girls are already prepared. But there’s a huge disadvantage, too. They have a preconceived notion about what works and what doesn’t. When you’re in the process, there are experts and they have to give their 100 per cent,” she says.
Currently busy with her next release, ‘Moh Maya Money’, she speaks about what she’s looking in the divas. “I’m looking at someone who’s not really trying too hard. I would suggest, be yourself and knock it out of the park with your wit. One doesn’t have to have the sharpest features, the perfect frame or be the best walker,” she concludes.
