Former Providence College Hockey Defenseman Dead At 27

Adams was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 2009 draft, but instead chose to attend college.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Former Providence College Defenseman Mark Adams who won a national championship with the team in 2015 died on Monday.

According to a statement from the school, Mark Adams, 27, of Boxford, Massachusetts death was sudden.

"Our program is heartbroken with the passing of Mark,” Head Coach Nate Leaman said. “He was a great teammate and a special part of our entire community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family."

Adams was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 2009 draft, but instead chose to attend college. He played in 98 games for the Friars from 2010 to 2015. Adams was a stay at home defenseman who tallied two goals in six assists over his college career.

Before playing at Providence College, Adams played three seasons at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, Massachusetts.
