Life's a beach! NCIS star Daniela Ruah chases criminal in a bikini top as she films scenes for hit crime drama

Chasing after criminals is no easy job.

But in Venice Beach, California, undercover agents at least get the luxury of going after assailants in their bikinis - at least on TV.

And Daniela Ruah did just that on Tuesday, chasing after a bad guy in a tiny top and shorts as she filmed NCIS: Los Angeles.

The Portuguese actress stars as Special Agent Kensi Blye in the hit crime drama which follows the Naval Criminal Investigation Service's Office of Special Projects as they crack cases in L.A.

Ruah, 28, seemed to have been caught off guard on Tuesday, however, as she sprinted out of a bar and after a criminal in a colourful zig-zag top, blue shorts and canvas loafers.

The outfit showed off her chiseled abs and slim frame, which she had covered up on the sand on Monday as she hit the surf for scenes with co-star Eric Christian Olsen.

The pair co-star on the series with LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell, who were also on set this week - with LL pictured learning to skateboard behind-the-scenes.

LL Cool J, real name James Todd Smith, is meanwhile coming down from some personal drama of his own.

The rapper-turned-actor hit headlines last month after fracturing the nose, jaw and ribs of an alleged intruder who broke into his home.

The 44-year-old hip-hop star, who plays Special Agent Sam Hanna, a former Navy SEAL, on the show, single-handedly apprehended Jonathan E Kirby, who is accused of breaking into the star's home on August 22.

Kirby, 56, was arrested and pleaded not guilty to a felony burglary charge late last month.

He appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom and entered the plea.

Kirby, who is believed to be homeless, was later charged with felony residential burglary.

He faces 38 years to life in prison if convicted due to his lengthy criminal history.

A district attorney's spokesman says Kirby's bail was set at $1.1million.

Ruah meanwhile took time out after filming on Tuesday to remind fans to tune in to the actors' fictional crime drama on CBS.

The actress wrote on Twitter: 'Sorry ladies & gents, don't know when we air internationally, but US is September 25th!'

The premiere will mark the series' fourth season.
