Southeast Asia keeps growth up for another quarter

Exports keep region's six big economies looking good, but tailwinds are weakening

SINGAPORE Economic growth accelerated in all of the six major economies of Southeast Asia in the July-September quarter, driven by robust exports. But with such signs as slowing consumer spending in Indonesia, it is not clear how long the uptrend will last.

The growth engine of the Thai economy is in the best shape seen in the past few years, and will get even better next year, Porametee Vimolsiri, secretary general of Thailand's Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, said Nov. 20.
