LLANGEFNI Town’s FAW Trophy journey ended at the quarter-final stage after a 2-0 defeat to Penydarren BGC.

Last minute changes hampered Chris Roberts’ side during the day, with the club agreeing to move the tie to Merthyr Town and a 4pm kick-off due to the adverse weather conditions on Anglesey.

After a nervy first half that brought little in the way of chances, the JD Welsh Cup heroes managed to gain an advantage after Chris Owens capitalised on a defensive mix-up to slot home a first for Pen.

Cefni tried valiantly to get themselves back into the tie, but they were unable to find a way past the resolute rearguard of the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division despite controlling long periods of the play after the break.

This proved to be crucial as their opponents doubled their advantage on 84 minutes when Josh Brogden converted from the penalty spot following an infringement.

Town’s attention now turns to lifting the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title, and they put themselves in pole position with an eye-catching 2-1 triumph at Conwy Borough.

Iwan Jones opened the scoring from the spot on 15 minutes, before the Tangerines struck back on 40 through Sion Hogan.

A vital three points were sealed after the break when James Saxon headed into an empty net, and the result leaves Roberts’ men four points behind Boro’ with two games in hand.
