NEOSHO, Mo. — A judge this week ordered a rural Seneca man to stand trial on a charge that he beat his girlfriend about a year ago, leaving her with bruises and lumps on her head and two black eyes.

Associate Judge Gregory Stremel found probable cause at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing Monday in Newton County Circuit Court to order Billy J. Pearish Jr., 44, to be tried on a count of first-degree domestic assault. The judge set Jan. 14 for the defendant's initial appearance in a trial division of the court.

Pearish is accused of assaulting Kristy M. Dungan on Jan. 1 at Dungan's residence on Redbud Road in Newton County.

A probable-cause affidavit states that he became upset with her for an unknown reason and began shoving her around. He then allegedly punched her in the face, forced her to the floor and began dragging her around by her hair before rubbing her head into the carpet so roughly that she "began losing clumps of hair," according to the affidavit.
