Eddie Redmayne was naturally excited to join the Wizarding World, but he's revealed he didn't quite know how to use his wand at first.

Ahead of the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald next month, Redmayne appears on tomorrow night's (October 26) The Graham Norton Show with co-star Jude Law and reflected on the challenges of wands.

"When you get to be in JK Rowling's world, you suddenly get a wand – you've pretty much waited all your life for this moment and you think you are going to be a pro at it, but you really don't know what to do with it," he recalled.

"So, I actually got a movement coach to help me work out how to use it – whether to do it over the top or minimal – we really studied it!"

Not wanting to be outdone, Law – who plays the young version of Dumbledore in the sequel – added that he took it "very seriously" too, taking inspiration from Picasso "to see how he held his brush" and from "conductors conducting".

"I get to do just one spell in the film and it was at a distance where I vaguely waved it in the air. It was so disappointing," Law noted.

"I also worked with a magician so I could do all the sleight of hand tricks and when I got there, they said, 'Nah, we CGI all of that stuff!'"

The Graham Norton Show airs tomorrow night (October 26) at 10.35pm on BBC One, while Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is released in cinemas on November 16.
