High school basketball coach among 6 arrested in Winston County meth bust

A drug bust in Haleyville last week landed six people in jail. One of them - Jamie Lee Edwards - was a basketball coach and teacher at Meek High School.

Haleyville police confirmed there was a bust at a residence on Oct. 6 but could not say where. Investigators reportedly found a meth lab and other drugs in the home.

Six people were arrested. Each was charged with second-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Those arrested were Edwards, 40, Christopher Adam Hicks, 26, Marlon Dale Pipkins, 60, Ashley Dewayne Pipkins, 38, Dennis Lee Baker, 57, and Michael Eric Wolfgang, 31.

Court records show each got a bond of $1 million for the manufacturing charges.

Edwards has been employed by the Winston County Board of Education since 2001. He resigned on Oct. 7, said Winston County Superintendent Greg Pendley.

"The Winston County Board along with myself hold all employees to a high stand as their responsibility is with the most precious resource to our county: our students. Any situation that may jeopardize our the education environment will always be dealt with in a timely manner in order to maintain that environment," Pendley said.
