1 Dead, 7 Injured in Memorial Weekend Crash in Forest

A 59-year-old Hayward woman is dead and seven others were injured after a tragic accident on Highway 64 over the Memorial Day weekend.

TOWN OF FOREST, WI — A 59-year-old Hayward woman is dead and seven others were injured after a tragic accident on Highway 64 over the Memorial Day weekend.

On Saturday May 27, 2017, 11:03 a.m., the St. Croix County Sheriffs Office responded to a two vehicle crash on STH 64 about one-eighth of a mile west of 310th St. in the Town of Forest.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2010 Ford Fusion going west on STH 64 crossed the center and struck a 2010 Ford F-150 head-on which was going east on STH 64. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, Ellen L. Gordon, age 59 from Hayward, WI was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the Fusion, Sheila A. Barber, age 49 from Couderay, WI was flown by Life Link Helicopter with injuries.

There were six occupants in the Ford truck. The driver, Darren L. Smith, age 46, of Glenwood City was taken to Westfields Hospital with injuries.

Passengers in the Ford truck were:
• JoAnn M. Smith, age 55, from Glenwood City, WI was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
• Judith M. Coyer, age 74, from Glenwood City, WI was taken to Westfields Hospital with injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.
• Denise L. Smith, age 51, from Glenwood City, WI was taken to Westfields Hospital with injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.
• William W. Wolff, age 52, from Adrian, MO was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
• Deanna L. Wolff, age 54, from Adrian, MO, was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Highway 64 was closed for four hours while deputies investigated the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's office and the Medical Examiner's Office. This is the fifth traffic fatality of 2017 in St. Croix County.
